Code Enforcement is part of the Fort Walton Beach Police Department effective Aug. 4, 2025. Code Enforcement Offices are now located at the Fort Walton Beach Police Station at 7 Hollywood Boulevard NE. Contact phone numbers and email addresses for the staff will remain the same. Code complaints can now be submitted through the MGO (My Government Online) Connect portal following the link on this page. Please note in accordance with Florida Statutes Chapter 162, code complaints cannot be reported anonymously.

Overview

The Code Enforcement Division ensures compliance with the City's codes and Florida Statutes by routinely inspecting properties for code violations and by responding to citizens' complaints regarding Building codes, zoning, or land use violations. Through the routine inspection of properties and response to citizen complaints, the Code Enforcement Division helps to ensure the general health, safety, and welfare of the community.

COMMON CODE VIOLATIONS

1. Inoperable Vehicles and vehicles parked on roadways for more than 72 hours.

  • UNLICENSED, NON-OPERATIVE ITEMS: SEC. 5.04.01 & 5.04.02(9)(10) PROHIBITED ACCUMULATION & OUTSIDE STORAGE OF AN UNLICENSED NON-OPERATIVE VEHICLE. PARKING IN EXCESS OF 72 HOURS: SEC. 11.07(1): NO PERSON SHALL PARK A VEHICLE CONTINUOSLY ON ANY PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY, PUBLIC PROPERTY, OR PUBLIC PARKING LOT MORE THAN 72 HOURS.

2. Litter, Junk, and Debris on property. 

  • LITTER: SECTION 5.04.01 (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7) & 5.04.02(2)(4)(6)(7) & (9) PROHIBITED ACCUMULATION & OUTSIDE STORAGE OF: LITTER AND DEBRIS.

3. Unkempt Yards, Grass, and Vegetation.

4. Garbage Cans left out after service.

5. Work being performed without the appropriates Permits.

  • PERMIT REQUIRED: CODE SEC. 3.01.05 & FLORIDA BUILDING CODE SEC. 105.1. FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AN ACTIVE BUILDING PERMIT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION PROCESS. CEASE ALL CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OBTAIN RENEWAL OF PERMIT# (XXXXX) TO COVER THE COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECT. ALSO REQUIRED IS AN APPROVED FINAL INSPECTION FROM THE CITY BUILDING INSPECTIONS DIVISION AS REQUIRED BY CODE AND THE CITY BUILDING OFFICIAL.
