The new Museum Store is OPEN! The Indian Temple Mound Museum reopens in March 2026!
The Museum Store is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Camp Walton Schoolhouse and Historic Buildings are open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the Camp Walton Schoolhouse and Historic Buildings is FREE while the Indian Temple Mound Museum remains closed. The Indian Temple Mound Museum will reopen in March 2026.

The expansion of the Indian Temple Mound Museum was made possible with the generous donations of former City Councilwoman Chris Gibson and her family, as well as funding from the Fort Walton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, the Okaloosa County Tourist Development Department, and the Okaloosa County ½ cent sales tax.

Operating hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Tuesday thru Saturday.

We are an educational and cultural institution of long-standing traditions. It is our mission to preserve, interpret and present the prehistory and history of the Fort Walton Beach community and the Northwest Florida area from 12,000 B.C. through the 1950s. We serve students, citizens, and visitors through exhibits, educational programs, publications, and special events.

Heritage Park and Cultural Center include the Indian Temple Mound Museum, Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum, Garnier Post Office Museum, Fort Walton Temple Mound, and the Civil War Exhibit Building. Admission for all the museum buildings is purchased inside the Indian Temple Mound Museum.

  • The Indian Temple Mound Museum is closed while our museum exhibit gallery renovation is completed. The Indian Temple Mound Museum is reopen in phases over the coming months.

  • The Historic Buildings (Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum, Garnier Post Office Museum, and Civil War Exhibit Building) are open 10:00am-3:00pm, Tuesday-Saturday. Admission to the Historic Buildings is FREE while the Indian Temple Mound Museum is closed. 

  • Museums are closed on Sundays, Mondays, and all major holidays. These holidays include, but are not limited to, the holidays observed by the City of Fort Walton Beach City of Fort Walton Beach Holidays

  • Heritage Park and Cultural Center is located at 139 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548. The outdoor museum grounds are open from approximately sun up to sun down. The building hours are listed above. The museums are self-guided and visitors proceed at their own pace. The Historic Buildings (Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum, Garnier Post Office Museum, and Civil War Exhibits) are located on the same property as the Indian Temple Mound Museum.
