Mission Statement
The Utilities Department’s mission is to protect the safety, health, and welfare of the citizens of Fort Walton Beach and its visitors by providing and maintaining high quality, safe, and reliable drinking water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater systems. To this end, the employees of the Utilities Department are dedicated to protecting all environmental concerns within our community.
Function
The Utilities Department provides management, leadership, and support to multiple divisions including Water Operations, Sewer Operations, Water Distribution, Sewer Collections, Stormwater Management, and Environmental Programs. The employees of this department are responsible for serving the community by providing quality, safe, and cost effective potable water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and environmental programs.
Sewer Collections
The Sewer Collections Division (850-833-9613) maintains forty-one lift stations, two pump stations and one hundred miles of gravity sewer lines. The Division inspects the sewer system with closed circuit television equipment and repairs any identified leaks. The Division also cleans an average of 20 miles of sewer lines annually.
Solid Waste
The Solid Waste Division (850-833-9655) collects solid waste on a designated schedule from residential and commercial customers. Residential garbage is collected twice a week-either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday depending on the location.

Water Operations
The Water Operations Division (850-833-9630) maintains the City's nine potable water wells, five elevated water storage tanks, and four ground water storage tanks. The Division is responsible for ensuring that the drinking water in Fort Walton Beach meets strict State and federal regulations, and that there is sufficient pressure and storage to meet domestic and fire fighting needs.
