January 20, 6:00pm: Expand Your Horizons Speaker Series

  • Treasures of the Panhandle: Journey Through West Florida by Dr. Brian Rucker
  • Free lecture followed by a book signing
  • Dr Rucker teaches history at Pensacola State College and the University of West Florida
  • He is a prolific and popular local author of "The Unionists of West Florida" and "West Florida's Creek Indian Crisis of 1837", plus many more.

February 3rd, 6:00pm: Expand Your Horizons Speaker Series

  • Dr Jocelyn Evans will give a lecture titled: Elections 2012: Exploring the Role of Florida in the Primary and General Seasons of This Year's  Electoral Politics.
  • Free lecture followed by a book signing
  • Dr Evans teaches classes on American Government at UWF and was recently awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award.
  • She is the author of several books, most recently One Nation Under Seige: Congress, Terrorism, and the Fate of American Democracy and also many journal articles.

February 11th, 10:00am: Green Earth Living Craft Class Series

February 18th, 7:00am-12:00pm: Friends of the Museum Yard Sale

  • Sale will take place outside the Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum
  • There will also be baked goodies and coffee for sale
  • All money raised goes towards supporting the museums of the Heritage Park and Cultural Center
  • Best place to park is in the large public lot next to the Harris Insurance Building.

  • Phyllis Hunt will teach you how to make coasters, small boxes, and bowls out of yarn (this is a great way to learn how to use up scraps).
  • Class costs $15 for the public, and $12 for Friends of the Museum members
  • You must bring a skein of yarn to the class

March 9th, 6:00pm: Expand Your Horizons Speaker Series

  • Dr Klaus Meyer-Arendt will give a free lecture titled Casino Gambling: Lessons from MississipiDr Meyer-Arendt teaches classes about geography, tourism, and the environment at the UWF.
    • This talk will discuss the process of legalizing casino gambling, geographic restrictions of gambling, Indian gambling, social impacts of gambling.
  • He is the author/co author of many journal articles, most recently Direct and Indirect Mortality in Florida during the 2004 Hurricane Season.
  • His current research interests include coastal studies, environmental geography, coastal mapping, and tourism impacts.

March 31st, 10:00am: Green Earth Living Craft Class Series

April 21st, 10:00am-4:00pm: Fire and Earth Coastal Pottery Expo/Youth Art Competition

  • Held during the Musical Echoes Native American Flute Festival which has attendance of over 10,000 people every year.
  • Ceramic artists can display and sell their work. Please see event application for more information.
  • Youth enrolled in a Northwest Florida educational facility (public or private, Elementary through college) are eligible to enter the Youth Art Competition. Please see event flyer and application for more information.

    • Tours began at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30pm each night from Indian Temple Mound Museum
    • Guided twilight walking tours through downtown FWB based on local history, folklore, and haunted happenings. See event flyer here.

  • November 12: 1st Annual Native American Day
    • Free Admission to all Heritage Park Museums
