City Attorney - Part Time
The City of Fort Walton Beach is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of part-time in-house City Attorney. As a charter officer in a council-manager form of government the city attorney serves as general legal counsel for the city, including the rendering of legal advice and assistance to the City Council, city manager, all city departments, offices, city advisory boards, and agencies. Other duties include researching legal questions, preparing resolutions and ordinances, issuing briefs and legal documents, representing the city in various civil lawsuits and rendering legal opinions. Work is performed independently under the direction of the City Council and is reviewed through conferences, inspection of documents, and evaluation of results obtained. This is an at-will position that serves at the pleasure of the City Council.
Candidates should possess the following qualifications: Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree, be a member in good standing of the Florida Bar and have a minimum of five years' municipal or county legal experience with a thorough knowledge of open government and public records, law enforcement, utility franchises, contracts, and zoning and land use law in Florida.
The anticipated starting salary of $60,000 - $80,000 is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.

Communications Officer
Department: Police Services.
Position: Part-time. Approximately 24 hours per week. Days of the week and hours will vary.
Hourly Rate: $11.87
Primary Duties: Uses public safety radio to communicate with Police Department personnel; receives incoming calls, obtains essential data and takes appropriate response; dispatches Police and emergency personnel to emergency and non-emergency situations; operates radio communication or computer equipment in the emergency command center during disasters or mobilizations; monitors and maintains records and logs; accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from a computer system.
Qualifications: Knowledge of the functions, procedures, and regulations of a police communications system; ability to elicit information from citizens necessary for proper dispatching; ability to assess situations and use sound judgment in decision making; ability to understand and express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; ability to speak clearly, distinctly, and politely; ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
Education/Experience: High school graduation or possession of acceptable equivalency; experience in use of a 2-way communication telephone/computer system.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid Florida driver's license.

Police Officer
Department: Police Services.
Position: Full-time/Non-exempt.
Hours: Varied - Shift Work
Hourly Rate: $15.59
Primary Duties: Performs general police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.
Qualifications: Knowledge of state and municipal laws, department policies and procedures, modern police principles, practices and methods; ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action to be taken; ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously and tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others; ability to learn the geography of the City and its physical and social characteristics; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to read, write and speak effectively; ability to meet physical requirements and standards.
Education/Experience: High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Completion of the Minimum Standards courses as set forth by the Florida Police Standards Council.
Licenses/Certifications: Florida Law Enforcement Certification; possession of a valid Florida driver's license.

Service Worker I - Water Distribution
Department: Utilities & Engineering - Water Distribution
Position: Full-time.
Hours: Monday thru Friday, 6:30am to 3:00pm
Hourly Rate: $9.69 or higher DOQ
Primary Duties: Performs semi-skilled manual work in various ground and maintenance tasks; lays and repairs water/sewer pipes and mains; operates cement mixer, sets forms, pours, shovels and levels concrete.
Qualifications: Knowledge of general maintenance tasks and procedures; skill in the operation and maintenance of construction equipment; ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions.
Education/Experience: High school graduation or possession of acceptable equivalency diploma.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid Florida driver's license.
